The United States Barista Championship in Boston, MA.
We trust sommeliers to help us select and understand our wine, bartenders to create cocktails that warrant celebration, and for our first taste of the day, coffee, we look to the expertise of coffee professionals.
Today in Boston, those wonderful baristas who create something that most of us can’t live even one day without, are competing to be named America’s champion of coffee making. Criteria is craftmanship, quality of flavor, art and skill of presentation and level of culinary creativity. Each competitor must prepare and serve 12 espresso based drinks: 4 espressos, 4 cappuccinos, and 4 signature beverages that they design (coffee with bacon or liquefied cheesecake?) and they only have fifteen minutes to complete all 12.
All fifty states and one District (DC) are participating. The winner of this weekend’s event will go on to represent the United States at the 2013 World Barista Championship next month (May 2013) in Melbourne, Australia.
