Adventure Stories: Helen Skelton’s Solo Kayaking Journey Down the Length of the Amazon

“You get out of life what you put in.”

British television personality Helen Skelton is thought to be the first woman to paddle the entire length of the Amazon. Her kayak, named Anne Marie, took her 2010 miles (3234.79 km) from the Rio Maranon and Rio Ucayali, Peru; to St. John in the Amazon Delta, Brazil. She paddled for 366 hours over the course of six weeks aiding the charity Sport Relief.

“Every single day here is tough so all I can do is take each one at a time and get through it. I have been suffering with the heat, my shoulders are sore and my legs are covered in mosquito bites but I’m battling on.”
