Crystal Head Premium Vodka – created by screen legend Dan Aykroyd, bottle designed by American artist John Alexander

Are you a fool for skulls and a really good martini?  A classic martini – vodka or gin or both — is one of the easiest drinks to make poorly.  Equally, it is one of those drinks that is truly memorable when made well.  So, with our current fixation on drinking only perfectly crafted martinis during the new year, we set out on a quest for the best ingredients.

Always in favor of premium vodka, we decided to go with a brand we’ve never tried before: Crystal Head Premium Vodka. The crystal skull vessel was designed by American artist John Alexander, the entire package, just $45 bucks.

It is intriguing enough that the brand was created by screen legend, Dan Aykroyd, but perhaps more intriguing is that the vodka is triple crystal-filtered through Herkimer diamonds. Diamonds!  Indulgent is as martini does, please.

Herkimer diamonds are to the new age community what enlightenment is to nirvana. So, if diamond distilling will fill my glass with positive energy and mystical properties, please pour me another. Sure enough, after a reasonably healthy sip, a wave of positive energy pulsated right through me.

Four times distilled and blended from select grains, Crystal Head is clean, subtly sweet, and has a slightly creamy mouthfeel that drinks a bit like lightly oaked chardonnay.
